ONE OF Netflix’s first British children’s series has cast a young black female lead.
Free Rein follows American teenager Zoe, played by Jaylen Barron, during her summer in the English countryside.
During her stay at Bright Field Stables, the 15-year-old’s life changes forever when she meets the mysterious horse Raven, whose friendship gives Zoe the strength to deal with issues and explore new relationships.
Faced with personal and physical challenges at every turn, Zoe’s inspirational journey teaches its target audience about failing, and learning to pick yourself up again.
Andy Yeatman, Netflix’s head of children’s programmes, said that the project is meant show young viewers characters “who are learning to deal with and overcome hardship.”
