KENDRICK LAMAR’S new album, Damn, has shot straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart shifting 603,000 in its first week – the most by an album in 2017.
It’s the highest first week of sales for an album since Drake went platinum with Views last year, selling 1.04 million copies in seven days.
Drake was also the record holder for 2017’s biggest week was the debut of Drake’s More Life, with 505,000 units in the week ending March 23.
Damn was released April 14 and and marks Kendrick’s third No. 1 album, following last year’s Untitled Unmastered. and 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
