TONY AWARD-WINNING actress Cynthia Erivo has thrown her hat into the ring to play Nala in the remake of The Lion King.
Last week, it was announced that Beyoncé was top choice to play the female lead in the live-action remake of the hit 1994 film.
Reposting an article on Essence which talked about Beyoncé’s possible involvement, the British actress wrote: “*raises hand nervously* then says, can I try?”
When followers questioned why she couldn’t “cheer Bey on instead of nominating yourself,” Cynthia replied.
“You nominate yourself, if no one else will, or even thinks to. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
The 30-year-old took home a Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Cecile in Broadway’s The Color Purple last year.
The award-winning production was also Cynthia’s debut Broadway role.
