SIX-YEAR-OLD author Vanae James-Bey has created a colouring book aimed at teaching young people about indigenous cultures.
After noticing the lack of representation of indigenous people in children’s books, Vanae, with the help of her and mother, sought to make something that allowed her peers to explore different cultures around the world in a fun and educational way.
Together, they came up with The Indigenous Adventures of Princess Vanae.
“With the help of my mother, I’ve created an educational coloring book for children of all ages,” Vanae writes on her website. “I love nature and I also love to explore. In my family our history and culture are very important to us. I think it’s fun to share knowledge on some of the oldest people on Earth.”
Vanae hopes other young children will not only learn from the book but enjoy colouring and being creative.
The idea, she says, is to inspire others to learn and explore cultures outside of their own.
She plans on authoring more books in the future.
