BRITISH ACTRESS Gugu Mbatha-Raw will play a superhero in upcoming Hollywood film, Fast Color.
Fast Colour follows Gugu as Ruth, a young woman who has to go on the run after it’s discovered she has super powers.
Finally, after years on her own, she returns to her family, now the only safe haven she has.
Orange Is The New Black’s Lorraine Toussaint will take on the role of Gugu’s character’s mother, according to Deadline.
Having been shortlisted for the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2015, she’s impressed with roles in Belle, Beauty and the Beast, Miss Sloane, Free State of Jones, Concussion and been cast in Episode VIII, the next as-yet-unnamed Star Wars movie.
Fast Colour is directed by Juila Hart and produced by La La Land Oscar nominee Jordan Horowitz.
“This is exactly the kind of movie I want to see in the theatre – three generations of strong women finding their power,” said Mickey Liddell, one of the producers behind the film who’s also responsible for Jackie, when talking to Variety. “Gugu and Julia are extraordinary talents and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them both on this special project.”
