Season 2 of HBO hit ‘Insecure’ is underway after star and creator Issa Rae posts picture of first table read

ALL SMILES: Issa Rae (bottom, middle) with the cast and team of HBO hit series, Insecure, at the first table read for season 2

HBO ANNOUNCED it had picked up Issa Rae’s hit show, Insecure, for a second season last year and the cast just made our day by posting a picture of themselves at the first table read.

“First table read of season 2!,” Issa, star and creator of the show, captioned an image on Instagram with her fellow castmates and director, Melina Matsoukas.

After scoring a cult YouTube hit with The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae created Insecure, one of the most talked about shows of the year, which landed her a Golden Globe nomination.

Awkward Black Girl, which began in 2011, was a response to “the mainstream media portrayal of what blackness is”.

The transition from independent internet operator to part of mainstream media has brought new challenges. “I’m a very impatient, impulsive person,” she told City News Service recently. “I’m very used to like, ‘Oh, I have an idea, let me write it, post it real quick, it’s out there, the audience loves it or hates it.’ Insecure has been been a three-year journey from pitch to screen. I’ve been just like, ‘Aaargh! I want to get it out there!’”
