DONALD GLOVER has been cast as Simba in a forthcoming remake of The Lion King.
Atlanta creator and star Donald, known musically as Childish Gambino, will be joined by James Earl Jones, who will reprise his iconic role as Mufasa, in Disney’s update on the 1994 classic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jon Favreau, who was behind last year’s Jungle Book remake, will direct the film.
The Lion King will similarly be mix of live-action and 3D-animation, featuring both human actors and animals brought to life using CGI.
The 33-year-old, who won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series or Musical for playing Earnest “Earn” Marks in Atlanta, has been piling on new projects of late, having recently signed a new deal to develop several TV shows for US network FX as well as taking on the role of Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo Star Wars spinoff, which is currently filming.
Atlanta has already been renewed by FX for a 10-episode second season.
