RIHANNA IS no stranger to making statements, whether that be in her music, on the red carpet or on social networks.
Therefore, it was no surprise when the Barbados-born songstress attended the annual Women’s March on Saturday (Jan 21), wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the slogan, ‘this p****y grabs back’.
The sassy slogan is in response to President Donald Trump’s admission that when you are a star, you can grab women “by the p***y… You can do anything”.
But what made her choice of attire that much more special is that it was created by 23-year-old British model Leomie Anderson.
Last year, the Victoria’s Secret beauty created LAPP: an empowering brand encompassing a clothing line and blog that allows girls of all ages to express their views.
“Right now, I feel like Trump is the most internationally recognisable face of misogyny,” she told Yahoo! About the inspiration behind launching the line. “He’s even been described as the man at the helm of the war against women. I saw a video of women protesting with the phrase that is adorned on my collection and really felt inspired by it. It’s not just an anti-Trump collection. It is against everything he stands for in regards to women and our rights.
She added: “It’s important to use my public position to spread awareness. I believe that if you have a following and are passionate about something, you should speak on it, but only if it is something that is truly important to you. I don’t think it’s fair to say that someone is obligated to speak on issues if they aren’t passionate about it.”
On seeing Rihanna wear her creation, Leomie took to Twitter and wrote: “The baddest @badgalriri in the @lappthebrand THIS P***Y GRABS BACK hoodie for the #womensmarch! So grateful to have someone I respect so much in something that means so much to me so thank you Rih!”
