US ACTRESS Yara Shahidi is to star in a potential spin-off of hit TV show Black-ish, it has been reported.
The talks are still in the early stages with no deals currently in place, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, the potential spin-off would revolve around Yara’s character, Zoey Johnson, from the original show in college.
The comedy, now in its third season, has become a critical darling and awards season player for stars including Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the latter of whom recently collected a Golden Globe for her role as the family’s mother.
Zoey — Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year-old daughter — is a natural focal point for a new series as she is college-bound. This season, to bolster her applications, her dad got her an internship at Teen Vogue where she has excelled.
The series is being developed by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and will be introduced as a backdoor pilot episode on the hit comedy show this spring.
