J COLE’S LATEST album, 4 Your Eyez Only has gone gold – without any features.
Yesterday (Jan 12), the RIAA, which certifies album sales, announced that Cole’s album was the only Hip-Hop project to go Gold (500,000 copies sold) in the fourth quarter.
“#4youreyezonly is the only 2016 4th quarter Hip/Hop album release to earn @RIAA certification, @JColeNC! @Dreamville @RocNation,” the RIAA tweeted.
J Cole’s album was released on December 9, 2016, with little promotion, but went on to land critical acclaim. At one point, every song on the 10-track album was on the Billboard Top 40 chart.
Vibe commented: “Cole’s streak is familiar to all of us, as the “platinum with no features” mantra developed in 2016 when his 2014 Forest Hills Drive hit platinum status just two months after its release.
“His debut album, Cole Word: The Sideline Story went platinum in under three months while Born Sinner hit a million units in a similar fashion.”
