UK RAPPER Lil Simz received high praise from lauded singer Lauryn Hill as she took to the stage at the former Fugees star’s tour.
The 22-year-old from Islington, north London, was invited to join Lauryn for selected dates on her MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! Tour, which will run through to December.
“‘Thank you for lighting it up for me tonight,’ says Miss Hill to me . speechless really,” Little Simz shared on social media.
The Wings rapper, who kicked off the year by making Forbes magazine’s inaugural 30 Under 30 Europe list, shared the news she would be joining Lauren Hill on tour via social media by pointing to a throwback tweet written in 2012.
“Lauryn Hill is live at the O2 today and I’m not there? F**k!,” wrote Simz, real name Simbi Ajikawo, unaware that four years later the rising star would be handpicked to join Hill.
The young wordsmith followed the tweet with some words of encouragement and advice.
She wrote: “Listen I’m showing you nowwwwww, speak what you want into existence.
“And when I say speak what you want into existence, I don’t mean run around and tell everyone. Be low key with it, just know what you want, believe it, and allow God to make it happen.”
The tour, which has united Hill with fellow hip-hop veteran Nas, features different performances from “artists throughout the African diaspora,” according to a press release.
In a statement, Hill said: “The MLH Caravan allows me to continue the theme of unity and celebration of the many facets of cultural and artistic beauty throughout the African diaspora while on tour this summer and fall. In these days of tension, tumult and transition, an exchange of this kind can yield direction, expression, understanding and empowerment as well as connection, self-Love and appreciation that hopefully overflows into our respective communities.”
