BLACK-ISH ACTRESS spent this morning (Oct 11) discussing girls’ education with First Lady Michelle Obama.
Today is International Day of The Girl, which recognises girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. It focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
Yara wrote on Instagram: “Truly over the moon. Such an inspirational morning discussing girls’ education on #internationaldayofthegirl btwn Me, @michelleobama and @cindi_leive + girls around the world!”
When the 16-year-old is not taping hit US TV show Black-ish, she is a full-time social activist, inspiring young women to excel academically, volunteering at medical clinics and starting her own mentoring club
She told The New York Times: “I’m filming nine and a half hours a day five days a week, but whenever I have a free moment, I’m talking to the U.N. or working on how to get Yara’s Club launched,” Yara said, referring to a mentoring program with the Young Women’s Leadership Network. “Giving back is not just something you do as an adult.”
