BASKETBALL STAR Dwyane Wade has signed to the Chicago Bulls for $47.5m.
The two-year-deal sees him leave the Miami Heat after 13 seasons and three NBA championships.
Dwyane joins a Bulls team that includes Rajon Rondo, Jimmy Butler, Robin Lopez, Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott, Bobby Portis and 2016 first-round draft pick Denzel Valentine.
He distributed a private letter yesterday (July 7) to Miami Heat employees a day after he decided to leave and thanked them “for welcoming a young, shy 21 year old kid and helping me grow into the man I am today”.
“I will always be a HEAT LIFER. To me, a heat lifer is not about the jersey I have on my back — but what I carry in my heart.”
The 34-year-old, who was born in Chicago, started his career there in 2003-04 and grew into one of the game’s best shooting guards.
In 2005-06, Dwyane averaged 27.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds and shot 49.5% from the field, and Miami defeated Dallas in the Finals. He was named Finals MVP.
He went through a 15-win season in 2007-08 and led the league in scoring at 30.2 points per game in 2008-09. He was there for the worst and best moments in franchise history.
Dwyane is a 12-time All-Star and was first-team All-NBA in 2008-09 and 2009-10. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in points, steals, assists, games, minutes, field goals and free throws.
