LONDON-BORN Nigeria-based SINGER and songwriter Seyi Shay has signed to Island Records, it was announced today (July 1).
The 32-year-old is set to follow in the footsteps of the Afrobeats’ international takeover by the likes of Fuse ODG, D’Banj, Wizkid and many more.
“Already a name on everyone’s lips in Nigeria, and newly signed to Island Records, Seyi’s new single Murda, which features fellow Nigerian stars Patroranking and Shaydee, has been lighting up dancefloors across the world, and it now gets its official UK release date on August 26t, just in time for London’s Notting Hill Carnival,” Island Records said in a press release.
Seyi Shay wrote and produced three songs for the soundtrack to Konami’s video game Crime Life: Gang Wars (2005). She also wrote You Will See, a song that was included on Melanie C’s third studio album Beautiful Intentions (2005).
The music star also wrote White Lies, a song from Chip’s Transition album.
In 2008, she became the lead singer for the now defunct pop girl group From Above. The group signed a recording deal with Sony/Columbia and was managed by Mathew Knowles’ Music World Entertainment company.
In November 2015, she released her debut studio album titled Seyi or Shay. It was supported by the promotional singles Irawo, Ragga Ragga, and Chairman.
