BOY BETTER Know (BBK) founder Skepta took home the Best International Act at last night’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
The north London MC beat our competition from Tinie Tempah, Stormzy, Lianne La Havas, Kano and Krept and Konan to take home the coveted prize.
Skepta’s recently released his fourth studio album Konnichiwa in May, which was met with critical acclaim.
Alex Petridis of The Guardian gave the album 4 out of 5 stars saying, “The architect of grime’s resurgence might have an eye on the US market, but he’s a distinctively, winningly English rapper.
While Louis Pattison of NME gave the album 5 out of 5 stars saying, “‘Konnichiwa’ is a landmark in British street music, a record good enough to take on the world without having to compromise one inch in the process.”
Beyonce opened the ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with a surprise performance of her Lemonade song Freedom. She was joined by rapper Kendrick Lamar.
