MEET 23-YEAR-OLD Ava Roberts, the youngest African American doctor in history.

French site Pelea reports that after a gifted childhood, Ava quickly excelled through medical school and became a force to be reckoned with.

The first black doctor in history was James McCune Smith, who received his medical degree in 1837 and was the first African-American to own and operate a pharmacy in the United States.

In 1864, Rebecca Lee Crumpler was the first African-American woman to receive a medical degree.
