STAR WARS actor John Boyega will co-produce and star as Idris Elba’s son in the Pacific Rim sequel.
The south London-born star made the announcement today (June 5) telling fans he would use the opportunity to launch his company, UpperRoom Productions, founded with agent and long-time friend, Femi Oguns.
“I’m excited to be working with Legendary Pictures and Steven S.Deknight,” he said. “My company UpperRoom Productions founded by myself and @femioguns will co-produce #PacificRim2 alongside Legendary.”
The BAFTA Award-winning actor will play the son of the marshal played by Idris Elba in the Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 monster pic, according to Deadline.
It’s unconfirmed whether Idris will be returning to the franchise, which grossed $411m at the box office.
“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox,” Del Toro said in a statement. “The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
