A YOUNG baking enthusiast has turned her hobby into a successful – and yummy – business.
Last September, Haley Thompson, 19, became one of the youngest bakers and business owners in the Ascension Parish of Louisiana, America.
The teenager, then 18, opened her French bakery, Bliss Patisserie, in Prairieville, and baked 400 cupcakes for her first day – selling out in just two hours.
“I [make] French-baked goods,” Thompson said, “And I want people to get a blissful feeling when they come in.”
The bakery sells cakes, cupcakes, Italian ices, macaroons, ice cream and Thompson’s specialty – “cake jars,” which are mason jars filled with cake and icing.
Thompson’s grandfather, Clarence Cutno knew his granddaughter had a special talent for baking when the teenager began taking orders for more than two dozen holiday pies a few years ago.
“She just has a talent given from God,” Cutno said. “She watched me make those pies, but in a year or two, she was doing stuff I couldn’t even think of doing. She’s blessed.”
Thompson has also opened a Bliss Patisserie branch in the Mall of Louisiana.
