Student becomes youngest person to receive degree at St John’s University – while undergoing chemotherapy

A 19-YEAR-OLD student has made history by becoming the youngest person to receive a Bachelor of Science  degree at St. John’s University.

Not only did Nyla Smith make history, she also did it while undergoing chemotherapy.

“I am a Crohn’s and Inflammatory Bowel Disease survivor, and even through managing chemotherapy treatments and depression, I still managed to get my Associates Degree at 17 and will be receiving my Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science at 19 years old,” she writes on her Hustle Hard website, a non-profit organisation that brings awareness to the everyday triumphs of dealing with Crohn’s and Colitis Disease, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), Depression, and Anxiety.

“I have an extraordinary story and have been blessed enough to be able to tell it to those who need to hear it,” she added.
