PRIMA BALLERINA Misty Copeland is being honoured with a Barbie doll in her likeness, the doll’s maker announced today (May 2).
Misty, 33, made history last year when she became the first African-American woman to be named principal dancer at the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre.
“It’s an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll,” Misty said in a press release.
The doll is part of the Barbie Sheroes program, which honors women who inspire girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for a diverse group of women.
Previous Sheroes include movie director Ava DuVernay and actress Zendaya.
