CHEWING GUM star Michaela Coel has won the Breakthrough Talent gong at tonight’s BAFTA TV Craft Awards.
The 25-year-old Brit, who wrote and starred in the hit E4 series, urged writers to write their own stories “if you want them to be told”.
“Thank you very much. I’ll probably take this time to urge anyone from an ethnic minority background, women, people deemed as otherwise disabled to get behind the camera, not just behind it,” she said when accepting her award. “Start writing your stories if you want them to be told. Set design, do everything. Thank you.”
Last month, Michaela took home two gongs at the Royal Television Society Awards for Best Comedy Performance and Best Breakthrough Act.
