Rihanna honoured at the Black Girls Rock ceremony

RIHANNA WAS honoured with the Rock Star Award at the recent Black Girls Rock ceremony on Friday (April 1).

The event, which was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, was a partnership between BET and the non-profit Black Girls Rock! to honour the achievements of extraordinary women of colour.

Rihanna, who is currently on her 73-date world tour said: “Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough.

“The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else.”

She added: “Role model is not the title they like to give me…but I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks.”
