BRITISH ACTRESS Lashana Lynch has landed a leading role in the Shonda Rhimes-produced Romeo & Juliet, it has been reported.

Still Star-Crossed is based on the book by Melinda Taub and, set in 16th century Verona, continues where Shakespeare’s story ended.

The series, produced by TV mogul Shonda – the force behind Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal – marks Lashana’s US TV premiere.

“So excited to be producing new @ShondalandTV PILOT,” Shonda wrote on Twitter yesterday (march 31). “So excited about @LashanaLynch.”

“So excited about YOU, @shondarhimes,” Lashana replied. “#StillStarCrossed is going to be absolutely amazing. Here’s to @shondalandTV and #HeatherMitchell”

Written Heather Mitchell, the screen adaptation centres on Rosaline, played by Lashana, the beautiful, headstrong cousin of Juliet.

Rosaline is taken in by Juliet’s parents and forced to work as a servant following her own parents death.

Lashana starred in Noel Clarke’s Fast Girls in 2012.
