US Singer Janelle Monáe has been cast in the Fox drama Hidden Figures, alongside Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer.
Hidden Figures is about three mathematicians who were the brains behind NASA’s Friendship 7 mission, which resulted in astronaut John Glenn become the first American to orbit the Earth in February 1962.
The film is based on the upcoming book by Margot Lee Shetterly, Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race, which HarperCollins will publish in September.
Janelle, 30, stars as the youngest mathematician, Mary Jackson, and Taraji plays Katherine Johnson, while Octavis takes on the role of Dorothy Vaughan.
Kevin Costner will also star as the head of the space program.
