POPULAR RESTAURANT chain Nando’s have honoured MOBO Award-winning rapper Stormzy with his own burger.
The ‘Merky Burger’, which contains grilled Halloumi cheese served in a toasted Portuguese roll, is named after the south London’s star alter ego and much-loved phrase.
The Portuguese restaurant, famed for their Peri Peri chicken, made the announcement today (March 15), just hours after the 23-year-old suggested they add his favourite combination to the menu.
In a tweet, Stormzy, real name Michael Omari, wrote: “Nandos 101: Halloumi cheese & garlic bread is a burger in itself. Need to go on that menu @NandosUK”
“Violá,” the company replied on their official Twitter account accompanied by a picture of their new menu.
“This is why I love you guys kmt #MERKY,” a humbled Stormzy tweeted in response.
Nando’s is a favourite haunt for many UK music stars, including east London rapper Lethal Bizzle, who name checked them in his single, Fester Skank.
Following a social media frenzy, a Nando’s spokesperson has since confirmed that while the ingredients for the #Merky burger existed on the menu, it didn’t have an official name.
“It’s a mocked up image,” a spokesperson said of the menu currently doing the rounds on social media. “But customers can order all the ingredients and make it themselves.”
They said the tweet was to honour the rapper, but the burger “is not officially called #Merky”.
