QUALIFIED: Yona Knight-Wisdom

YONA KNIGHT-Wisdom has become the first Jamaican diver in history to qualify for the Olympics after placing in the top 20 at the men’s 3m springboard event at the Diving World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

Yona, who trains with Team GB, secured 17th place in the qualifiers, which guarantees his place in the Rio Olympics this summer.

“When you realise you’ve qualified for the OLYMPIC GAMES,” he wrote on Twitter shortly after the feat today (Feb 21).

In 2014, the 20-year-old from Leeds, whose father hails from the Caribbean island, became the first person to represent Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games.
