SOME OF the top names from the UK music scene will perform at SBTV’s first-ever South by Southwest (SXSW) showcase, the channel confirmed today (Feb 19).
Names including MOBO Award-winners Stormy, Section Boyz and singer Shakka will join the likes of grime veteran Frisco, The Square collective members Blakie and Elf Kid at the festival in Austin, Texas, next month for SBTV Presents: Strictly British.
Jamal Edwards MBE, founder and chief executive of SBTV, said: “SBTV has always spotlighted great British talent, so it is fitting that we are the music platform who will be representing the best emerging artists from the UK this year.
“With high-profile US acts and media paying UK music a lot of attention at the moment, it’s more important now than ever to have a carefully curated SXSW showcase exclusively spotlighting UK music.”
Curator British Underground will produce the showcase in partnership with SBTV, one of he UK’s youth-focused online broadcasters.
British Underground chief executive Crispin Parry said: “We are very excited about The Best Of British and working with SBTV.
“British Underground have been hosting UK stages, panels and networking spaces at international industry events including SXSW for almost 15 years now, so we hope our experience staging world-class events at music industry festivals will be a strong resource to SBTV and the acts representing the UK this year.”
