The 23-year-old, who rose to worldwide fame as the character of Stoormtrooper Finn in box office hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens, revealed he had started working on the eight instalment on Twitter.
“First day on Star Wars 8 complete ! We must face them! Fight them,” he wrote, much to the delight of fans.
“@JohnBoyega So excited!! I’m already loving what I’ve heard about the new cast members,” wrote Twitter user @Indigo_15.
John’s role in the film, which became the first film in history to gross $905m domestically won the young actor the coveted Rising Star BAFTA on Sunday (Feb 14) and earned him a place on the inaugural Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
“Guys, I haven’t been doing this for a long time, it’s a fluke! I’m gonna share this award with all the young dreamers who are determined, who are hard working, who are quite frankly amazing. This is also for you. Blessings for your path and God bless,” he said when collecting his BAFTA.
