NORTH LONDON rapper Skepta has topped MTV’s Best UK MCs of 2015.
The 33-year-old founder of grime collective Boy Better Know was described as “the best MC in the UK right now,” by the popular music channel.
“He ticks all of the boxes in our criteria. He has a very buzz both here and overseas with America, Canada and Australia being amongst the many places he toured last year.”
They described his single Shutdown as “one of the biggest grime tracks of 2015.”
He featured on the remix of Afrobeats star WizKid’s Ojuelegba, supported Canadian rapper Drake at the OVO Fest, appeared on Apple Radio with Pharrell and toured the world with his BBK family.
He has also been announced on the 2016 Coachella line-up.

Skepta’s brother and fellow BBK member also appears on the list at No.3, just behind double MOBO Award-winning rapper Stormzy, who was described as the “most exciting newcomer of 2015”.
The said of the south London star: “His rise to fame has been nothing but remarkable. Last year, he won two MOBOs, dropped two Top 20 tracks, with one of them being a freestyle, his got a show on Beats 1 Radio [and] sold out his UK tour in four minutes.”
Fellow north London star, Little Simz, who is currently on a world tour, is also the only female to make the list at No.10.
Past winners include Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32 (2011 & 2012), Krept & Konan and last year’s champion Stormzy, with the calibre of MCs that make up the rest of the list always of immense quality.
“After MTV created the list we asked for some of the premier DJs, producers, presenters and directors in the game to give their opinions,” MTV said in a statement.
