WHAT DO west London songwriter Carla Marie and pop star Beyoncè have in common? The smash hit song Runnin.
But the former Destiny’s Child singer is just one of a famous roll call of names that Carla Marie has penned winning songs for.
They include a plethora of top 10 hits for Girls Aloud, Alesha Dixon’s ‘The Boy Does Nothing’, The Saturdays and Kylie Minogue .
“I want to be known and respected as a visionary, that inspires and empowers others to follow their dreams,” the acclaimed songwriter, who began her musical journey when she was 10, told GetWestLondon.
She was still in primary school when she put together a girl group who she titled ‘The Likkle Mentions’ of which she was the lead singer.
However, she experienced her career defining moment when she was 15 after winning a competition to join the team of American DJ Hal Johnson.
She was flown to New York and performed at the Apollo where she represented England as one of 50 girls from across the globe.
“It was incredible,” said Carla. “One minute I was at school in Harrow, the next I was taking boat trips on the Hudson River, visiting Madison Square Gardens and performing at the Apollo.”
In the past 12 months, Carla and her team have worked with UK and US acts such as Beyoncé, DJ Mustard, Pia Mia, Rudimental, Wilkinson, Becky G and Shae Taylor.
