MOBO Award-winning rapper Stormzy will walk boxer Anthony to the ring ahead of his bout with Dillian Whyte tonight (Dec 12).
Anthony, 26, announced the news on his Instagram page today.
“Morning,” the 26-year-old wrote alongside and image of him holding a hot drink. “Someone’s joining my ring walk, any guesses? #ShutUp.”
Anthony later asked on Twitter: “Morning @Stormzy1, are you doing anything today?”
Stormzy, whose self-assured freestyle is titled Shut Up, seemingly confirmed the news on Twitter replying, “I think we’re REPPING you know bro.”
Speaking to Complex in July, Anthony said it was his wish to have the south London wordsmith alongside him during his ringwalk, but he didn’t think “I’m at that level yet.”
“I was going to get Stormzy to try and do a ring walk with me – but I don’t think I’m at that level yet where I can start having people rapping for me when I walk, that’s too hype,” he told the publication. “I said let’s just be patient and get to a level where we can start doing stuff like that.”
The Olympic boxing champion faces Dillian Whyte, 27, for the vacant British heavyweight title at London’s O2 Arena.
“I don’t want to go many rounds. If I can knock him out in the first round, beautiful,” Anthony told BBC Sport. “I’ll stand over him laughing, for talking all that rubbish about me. “
After winning gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Anthony turned professional amidst a haze of publicity in late 2013, and has since accumulated a flawless 14-0 record with all of his victories occurring via stoppage.
Whyte too has a perfect 16-0 professional record. The 27-year-old, who returned to the ring in November 2013 after a ban, has impressed against average competition ever since, with seven successive stoppages reasserting his reputation as one of Britain’s best heavyweights
